KBXL and KSPD Background Information
One of the goals of Lee and Beth Schafer since their marriage in 1970, was to own a radio station. Lee's interest in radio began as a ten-year old boy when he received his amateur radio license. He later worked at the campus radio station during his college days. After enrolling in seminary in Kansas City, he worked for the Bott family at KCCV.
In 1983 their dream became a reality when they purchased KSPD am. Six years later they also acquired KBXL FM. Lee has a thirty-year background in Christian radio. Beth has been a professor of business at a Christian liberal arts college and today divides her time between the radio stations and George Fox University's Boise campus.
The mission statement of the company is "to glorify God by providing inter-denominational Christ-centered family programming." They believe local commercial ownership affords expeditious decisions. All 24-hour stations specialize in Christian Talk programming which serve a wider listening audience through more diversified programs within the pale of Christian orthodoxy.
